Direct Connection, Rotating Proxy Endpoint or Backbone Connection - which one to use?
Updated this week

At Webshare, we offer 3 different ways to connect: Direct, Rotating, and Backbone. We recommend using Direct if you purchased proxies without auto-refresh and Rotating or Backbone for those who enabled auto-refresh. Here's a breakdown of each connection method:

Direct

This option is best if your proxy list doesn't change by refreshes or replacements. With Direct Connection, you can connect to different proxy addresses using the same username and password. It is the most high-speed connection that works for most use cases.

Rotating

The rotating proxy endpoint rotates the proxies on your list within each other at each request in random order. Proxies are automatically shuffled so that you don’t have to do so manually. This way, your activities with proxies are harder to be detected by the target website.

Pros:

  • Saves time

  • Increased anonymity

Cons:

  • 0-100 milliseconds slower than Direct

You can configure the rotating proxy endpoint by following these steps:

Navigate to the Rotating Proxy Endpoint page.

Inside the Rotating Proxy Endpoint panel, grab the Domain Name and Proxy Port with Proxy Username and Proxy Password, or use the IP authorized on the account.

Backbone

Similar to Rotating Proxy, Backbone is recommended when your proxy list refreshes. The difference is that Backbone always uses the same IP address.

Pros:

  • Saves time

  • Increased anonymity

Cons:

  • 0-100 milliseconds slower than Default

That's it! We hope this helps you choose the best connection method for your needs.
