Converted IP Address

Updated this week

A converted IP address is an IP that replaces the domain, which is typically used as the proxy address in Backbone Connection.

How the Converted IP System Works

Instead of showing the domain, which many websites may block, the system generates an IP address that looks similar to how your proxy address would look in Direct Connection. Still, it functions the same as if you were connected using our domain.

The converted IP address is automatically configured closest to your location. Therefore, this converted IP is not the actual IP of the proxy, and it varies based on the user’s location or device.

A common mistake is checking the geolocation of the converted IP address instead of the assigned IP, which often shows a location near where you are, not the proxy itself. This leads some users to believe the proxy is returning the wrong location. To verify the correct location, you should check the assigned IP address, the one you're actually connecting through, and the one websites will see.

When checking a converted IP address on external websites, it will also always appear as hosting, so if you are subscribed to a Static Residential plan, make sure to check the assigned IP.

When to Use It

Using converted IP as the proxy address instead of our domain is suggested if the proxies are blocked when connecting in Backbone Connection or with the Rotating Proxy Endpoint, because the website you are targeting can be blocking our domain: p.webshare.io.

Keep in mind that if you're using the rotating proxy endpoint with the converted IP address, the assigned IP address will change with every sent request.

How to Get the Converted IP Address

1) Go to the Proxy List section on the side menu of your dashboard.

2) Make sure the connection method is set to Backbone Connection.

3) Click the convert button next to the domain proxy address.

Now you can use the converted IP instead of p.webshare.io. Keep in mind that the port in your configuration should remain 80.
